One of the biggest downsides of sports games is that the rosters and the player data never really change that much during the season. Sure you might get a roster update for players who move to different teams before the season starts but player data never changes. All that changes this year in
FIFA Soccer 09 with their Live Season feature which updates player data every week from the six major European soccer leagues.
As the season progresses the game will download player data to your console and you'll be able to see who's hot and who's not. EA is giving you one of the leagues for free but you'll have to pay for the other five (no pricing info available yet). I'm sure that not everyone will be happy about having to pay to get the data but if it's cheap enough (under $5 for all the leagues) then I think it might be worth picking up for the hard core soccer fans. I am a little bummed that there's no data for the MLS teams but then again they are wrapping up their season within the next two months and hopefully EA will add them in time for next year's season.
