When I first heard about
Borderlands my first thought was "Wow, they are making a game based on a Madonna song". I later realized that the game was a new FPS from the folks at Gearbox but I have to admit to some disappointment what we won't get a game about a classic Madonna song.
The game isn't a straight FPS as the folks at Gearbox have merged a lot of RPG elements into the game. As you progress through the game you will gain new abilities and increase your stats in the class you select. The other big thing to know is that the game has more guns than a NRA convention. I'm not sure that there's an arms races with other FPS games out there but if there was Borderlands certainly has a leg up on everyone else.
Borderlands also features persistent four player co-op which means that you'll be able to take your experiences and skills with you. I'm interested to see how this works and if the game scales when you have players of varying levels in the same game.
We weren't given much of an introduction to the game though as the developers played through a two person co-op mission to capture a mysterious artifact from a group of nomads in the desert. While there were a few glitches the game looked good, I just wish the developers had provided some morebackstory on the game as well as provided more information on the vehicle combat in the game. I did like a lot of what I saw as the merger of FPS andRPG elements was fairly seamless but I'm a bit leery of the title until I get more info on the rest of the game.
