The LEGO series has turned into a license to print money for the folks at Traveler's Tales. The games blend fun platforming action with a strong sense of humor into a product that everyone can enjoy.
LEGO Batman doesn't stray from that format at all and the folks at TT have another deep IP to work with (something that they didn't really have with LEGO Indiana Jones). Not only will you get to play through the game as the dynamic duo but you'll also get to play through with all the villains in the game.
If you've played any of the previous games you'll be right at home with
LEGO Batman. There are a few new things to learn though. The biggest being the new batarang system which allows players to move a cursors around the screen tagging items to hit with your batarang. This is helpful in taking out multiple bad guys as well as crucial in solving some of the puzzles in the game. There are also special suits you can pick up during the game that provide special puzzle abilities. One example I saw was Robin getting a tech suit that allowed him to operate a remote control car in the game. The remote control car was then used to navigate through an area to flip a few switches. Sure it's a bit on the basic side but I think that's part of the appeal of the game.
We did hit a few areas there the game's side perspective worked against it. There was a small bridge that I had to navigate across and it took me nearly six times to get across the bridge due to not being able to figure out where the top and bottom of the bridge was. The developer who was monitoring us said that I wasn't the only one who had the problem and it was something they were looking in to (I'm not sure if he was just being nice but I did see someone else who had the same problem). Other than that little glitch I think the game is going to be another hit for the series. There's nothing new that's going to bring in new people to the series but LEGO fans are in for another solid game.
