Rise of the Argonauts was a bit of a surprise for me. I hadn't heard much of the game before the show but the action RPG's interesting twist on the Jason and the Argonauts mythos provides both a new plotline and some new twists on the RPG genre. It's almost a bit like Liquid Entertainment ground up
God of War and Knights of the Old Republic, and then threw in a touch of Hercules (the one with Keven Sorbo) for flavor.
As Jason you must figure out why your wife was assassinated on your wedding day and then revive her by tracking down the golden fleece. Along the way you'll get to rub elbows with Greece's finest heroes (and unlike God of War you don't kill them). In the game you have to appease four gods (Areas,Athena,Apollo, and Hermes) and each of them corresponds to a particular weapon. All of the dialogue options in the game are mapped to one of these gods and each decision will make a particular god happy. As you complete the game you can complete deeds which you dedicate to these gods. Why do this? Because if you give them enough praise they will upgrade your weapons for you. Polytheism FTW.
The other cool thing about the game is that when you land a blow to an enemy with a big weapon it's either going to kill or cripple them. That's right when you land a blow with a mace it will actually land realistic damage. This is actually a pretty cool concept and I'm interested to see how it plays in the final version of the game.
There's more but Charlie Pryce from Liquid Entertainment does a better job than I could. After seeing
Rise of the Argonauts I think this might be worth picking up when it comes out this fall.
