First Impressions – Turning Point: Fall of Liberty demo

If you own a 360 and like FPS games then you owe it to yourself to check out the Turning Point:Fall of Liberty demo. I didn’t have high expectations for the alternative history FPS but after playing the demo I think that opinion is going to change.

The demo opens with one of the best intros for a game that I’ve seen in a while. Instead of giving you a cinematic of the invasion of New York you are a construction worker who witnesses the invasion from the top of an under construction sky-scraper. Your first task is to work your way off the building to safety while the bombs fall all around you. This part of the demo is rock solid as you have to stay ahead of the destruction around you. Along the way you pick up some guns to help you take out the Nazi aggressors.

The game devolves into standard FPS gameplay when you reach the ground. . The AI does seem pretty good as they do a good job of finding and using cover effectively. I even had one solider pick up a grenade and throw it out of the way when I didn’t cook it long enough. The level design for the last part of the demo is a bit Brand X but that might be because what was leading up to it was so strong.

I’m interested to see what the final game brings. There are certainly echoes of Half-Life in the game design but I hope the rest of the game is as good as the first part of the demo. If it is then Spark might have a nice hit on their hands.
