CES 2008: Panasonic PT-AX200U Projector

While everyone was busy cramming in to get a look at the 150" Panasonic Plasma, I had an appointment to check out Panasonics new PT-AX200U Gaming Projector. I was able to watch Major League Gaming professional Tom "TSquared" Taylor put the hurting on poor schleps that challenged him at Call of Duty 4.
The set-up in the Panasonic booth was in an enclosed room that really allowed the projector to show how well it can do when set-up properly. The split screen was large, which really showed off the Game Mode technology that reduces the lag between controller and on-screen action. The mode provides a 60% faster response from the controller to the projector. On several occasions, Taylor commented how well the response was in-game, and based on how easy he was dispatching people, it appeared as much. In the past, playing games on projectors has been about playing big, but from what I saw of the PT-AX200U, this projector could help usher in projector use on a more common basis.
Here are a few measurables on the PT-AX200U. It sports 2,000 Lumens with a 6,000:1 Contrast ratio on its highest setting. Native resolution is 1280 x 720, with connections include HDMI (2), VGA (1), Component (1), S-Video (1) and Serial (1). Lamp life is expected to be approximately 2,000 hours.
