Following my post about the Marathon social media accounts firing back up and teasing something, we now know that something is a full reveal on April 12th at 1:00PM Eastern Time. A new "Save the Date" trailer has been shared by developer Bungie following a days-long ARG (alternate reality game) that saw fans deciphering codes and solving puzzles which unlocked new concept art, some of the game's soundtrack, and, ultimately, the new teaser that you can see below. If you're just learning about Marathon for the first time, here is a bit of backstory from the game's website:
"A massive ghost ship hangs in low orbit over a lost colony on Tau Ceti IV. The 30,000 souls who call this place home have disappeared without a trace. Strange signals hint at mysterious artifacts, long-dormant AI, and troves of untold riches. You are a Runner, venturing into the unknown in a fight for fame… and infamy. Who among you will write their names across the stars?"
Now, let's talk about this trailer for a moment. Folks, it is stunning. The art direction, the art style, the color scheme - my compliments to the chefs at Bungie, who have absolutely cooked thus far. Of course, there is a bit of consternation online over the viability of a team-based sci-fi extraction first-person shooter, but I do not share those doubts. I'm having the same feeling I had after seeing Helldivers 2 for the first time, which turned out quite well. I'm trusting my gut on this one. I can't wait to learn more about Marathon, and more importantly, to get my hands on it.
