The gang at Gaming Nexus loves Dungeons & Dragons. We have an ongoing campaign that Randy Kalista runs in a Slack channel with a storied history that goes back years. We never stop talking about D&D; it is the only topic in our chat that gets more play than professional wrestling.
We also love Demeo. For a group that lives at the far-flung corners of the United States, Resolutions Games' Demeo offers us the best way to get together in one (virtual) room for some dungeon crawling adventures. Take a look at our review if you aren't already familiar, but in a nutshell - Demeo takes everything that is great about tabletop D&D and distills it down to its most vital essence, then presents it to group of players in a lively interactive VR setting that allows everyone to holler and laugh together. It's great stuff.
But, of course, every time I've played Demeo with a group, someone always mutters "Man, I wish they could do this with Dungeons & Dragons." Well...
Resolution Games nailed down the partnership. They did the thing. Resolution Games and Wizards of the Coast are bringing D&D to Demeo with DEMEO X DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: BATTLEMARKED.
There are no details yet as to what D&D mechanics will make their way into Demeo. Currently, for example, Demeo players use stock characters that don't change between campaigns. So will we be able to make our own characters in BATTLEMARKED? And will they gain XP and grow over time? Don't know from this initial announcement. A lot of info is still mysterious.
What we do know is that BATTLEMARKED will be using the "classes, actions, and lore of Dungeons & Dragons to this system for all new adventures and a whole new experience built from the ground up with D&D in mind,” according to Tommy Palm, founder and CEO of Resolution Games. That's good enough for me, Tommy. Resolution Games has also announced that the game will release with two story-based campaigns, with further campaigned coming down the road as DLC.
There is no word yet on a release date or specific platforms, though today's PR release states that BATTLEMARKED is "anticipated to be available for play across PC, Console, and XR devices". It's that last point that matters most to me, as Demeo has long been one of the very best experiences in VR, and it seems that the best is about to get a whole lot better.
Gaming Nexus will bring more details on DEMEO X DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: BATTLEMARKED as they become available. Stay tuned, and in the meantime, check out the official BATTLEMARKED website for more information.
