Patriots, Helldivers 2 made a grand and surprise appearance at last night’s awards show, revealing major changes to the Helldivers universe. The so-called “Omens of Tyranny” update sees the return of a formidable foe – the Illuminate – as well as a new vehicle, new maps, and new premium Warbond.
Unfortunately, the mind-controlling Illuminate scum have resurfaced after nearly a century, invading the very streets of Super Earth. For the moment, these are just smaller bands of insurgents, but Super Earth High Command knows their intentions are greater. As such, a new Fast Recon Vehicle has been made available to let you and your squad of Helldivers speed through the streets with additional firepower. Speaking of additional firepower, the new “Urban Legends” Warbond adds a variety of weaponry, including the SQC-19 Stun Lance melee weapon (which is a secondary weapon), the SH-51 Directional Shield stratagem, the E/AT-12 Anti Tank Emplacement to help take down those larger Illuminate, and the A/FLAM-40 Flame Sentry turret if you like your Illuminate extra crispy.
Now sounds like the perfect time to jump back into Helldivers 2 and spread some managed democracy. I was in a Discord voice chat with some Gaming Nexus colleagues last night when this was announced, and I must apologize for yelling with excitement in their ears. Freedom does crazy things to even the most mild-mannered Helldivers.
