Well, kiss my Quest 3 goodbye for a couple of days. I have an eleven-year-old in the house, and as soon as she gets wind of Barbie Dance 'n Dream, the new experience for Synth Riders, it's all over. You might think that 11 is bit too old to get excited for a Barbie DLC in a VR music game. You would be wrong about that, because I'm 52 and I'm excited.
The fun thing about Synth Riders is that it is awesome no matter what music you are playing along to. For those that haven't played it, the game is somewhat similar to Beat Saber, but instead of whacking away at shapes with lightsabers, Synth Riders is more about finding and riding a groove. Everyone has their favorites, but I much prefer Synth Riders, as I am far more likely to get in the zone and just veg out as I cruise through a song. Though the music is banging around my head, I almost find it meditative.
Which leads to Synth Riders "Experiences", which are special songs that the devs at Kluge Interactive have gone above and beyond on. These experiences propel you through interesting (sometimes disconcerting) worlds, created specially to match the visuals with the music. They are pretty brain melting, which is why I'm excited to check out the Barbie experience.
For $2.99, you can grab the Barbie Dance 'N Dream DLC, which gives you access to the new experience, set to "Barbie Dreams (ft. Kalii)" by K-pop group FIFTY FIFTY, off the Barbie Motion Picture Soundtrack. The song is a bop, of course, and I'm jazzed to see what trippy visuals the gang at Kluge Interactive has come up with to match it.
Am I a huge Barbie fan? No. But I also don't hate Barbie. I'm okay with Barbie. What I'm really into is cool VR experiences, and I fully trust that Kluge Interactive has made something amazing here, regardless of the theme. Expect a report back later in the day.
