I totally looked that up. I'll admit, that I was terrified of the smash hit Phasmophobia. I was hoping that the ghost hunting phenomenon was all that it was cracked up to be. So much so, that I successfully avoided it for the longest time. Then it happened. It was announced to consoles, with crossplay, and Gaming Nexus wanted me to soil myself on stream. Even our own editor in chief wanted to play the thing in VR, like a fool. I obliged, and we were off.
First things first, there were only three of us, so let's get the whole stay in the van thing out the way. The van is where you start and get all your ghost hunting things. PKE meter. Camera. Thermometer. Green dot light to see the ghost, and even a regular flash light. In the van, you can see a camera set up for the inside of the house, as well as your objectives, and your sanity meter. The better the sanity meter, the better chances you have on not running from, or getting possessed by the ghost. As you walk through the house, strange noises happen, things get moved, the ghost talks to you. Ghost game.
The game also has proximity chat, meaning that if you're far away from your colleagues, they won't be able to hear you. You know who can hear you though? The ghost, and will turn your world upside down, and sometimes even kill you. It can also whisper things into your recommended headphones, scaring the absolute mess out of you. It's a scary game, or so we thought.
Starting off with very little, and not having enough people, doesn't give the game much to go on. You're not taught how to use the equipment, and it's kind of a learn as you go thing which is fine, but I did not enjoy it. Nor was I scared like I though I would be. I would never say this game is overhyped. I don't think I played with the wrong people. I think it takes some time to get into all the things, more time than we had for this first session. And I don't know if I want to take the time to do that, just to be scared. You're also reading the article of a person who refuses to pay for haunted houses. Take that with a grain of salt. Here's a video of our gameplay. Go ahead and tell me what you think in the comments. Because engagement.
