I saw the headline, sports-themed first-person shooter, and was left a little befuddled. There’s a first time for everything. SPORTAL is hoping to blend, “fast-paced FPS mechanics with sports action, SPORTAL hurls players into a portal where vintage sports gear becomes deadly weapons. Armed with baseball bats, hockey sticks, lacrosse nets, and more, players will strike, launch, and slam numerous balls into hordes of classic 1950s-style movie monsters in this one-of-a-kind FPS roguelike set in an 50s America.” I have to say, the baseball bats all have barbed wire wrapped around them, and spikes are coming out of the football, so it makes a little more sense to see them as weapons.
The world of SPORTAL is filled with numerous movie-themed settings, and the further you progress, the more powerful upgrades you can collect to refine the monster-smashing arsenal. As players uncover the mystery of their situation, they’ll discover clues as to why a trip to the cinema turned into a portal-jumping, monster-fighting adventure. And of course, there are plenty of weapon choices to make, outfits, and perks to add to your game collection.
