The Auction House is back. I repeat, the Auction House is back. Let’s just rejoice for a moment, shall we? After removing the long-running feature from its card-based team-building mode, NBA 2K25 will see the much-needed return of the Auction House for MyTEAM mode. That’s not the only big change for this year’s iteration of the popular mode – we’re also getting new single-player modes, new competitive modes, a streamlined user interface, and more.
Perhaps the biggest new feature on the PvP side of MyTEAM is Triple Threat Park, a remaster of NBA 2K16’s Rivet City Championship MyPARK, with the chain nets and all. At Triple Threat Park, you’ll be able to play traditional 3v3 games against another player or play with five other players as each one of you controls an individual NBA player. One cool feature is the Showcase Spot, a place in Triple Threat Park that lets you open card packs on a massive billboard for everyone to see, and if you pull a powerful card, fireworks go off – that’s dope.
On the single-player front, or PvE if you will, Breakout is a new boardgame-style mode that let’s you begin a run in the middle of Breakout City, where you must play games from various modes with players from different eras to reach the edge of the board and break out. Winning games earns Prize Points, which are used to unlock rewards on the edge of the board. Be on your game though – as you progress further from the starting point, the challenge level rises. There is one major caveat to Breakout mode though; its addition means that the standalone Triple Threat and Clutch Time modes have been retired, as they’ve now merged into Breakout.
Two other competitive modes have been added this year, as well. Showdown is a new head-to-head mode that is played with a full 13-card lineup and four-minute quarters. As you play and win games, you will progress up 15 tiers with different rewards. Everyone starts at tier 15 and works their way up, but there is a checkpoint system in place which means that once you go up a tier, you can’t drop down during the season. And finally, King of the Court is a new Saturday-only event for the best of the best, meaning you will have to qualify for it by having enough MyTEAM Rep, or hitting certain thresholds in Showdown or Triple Threat Park. One thing there was no mention of was Domination mode, the single-player mode that let you play NBA teams from various eras, so hopefully that is not gone from this year’s game, but it’s looking like that’s the case.
I’m getting a bit long in the tooth for a news post, but the last thing I wanted to share with you is the new Starter Packs for MyTEAM. We are still getting our starter kits with cards from our favorite NBA team, but this year we are also getting two option packs – one that lets us pick two Diamond free agent cards, and another with a Pink Diamond free agent player. The best part is that these free agents have extended use periods of 25 games for the Diamonds, and 10 games for the Pink Diamond. That’ll be a nice boost to get us off on the right foot in MyTEAM mode this year.
