At yesterday’s State of Play stream, PlayStation developer Firewalk Studios peeled back the curtains on Concord, its 5v5 competitive first-person shooter. What’s more, the game’s launch is imminent – dropping on August 23rd for both PlayStation 5 and PC, with a beta planned for July.
Over on the PlayStation Blog, Concord game director Ryan Ellis shared all the details on what exactly Concord is. For starters, it’s a love-letter to sci-fi adventures, with influences from anime, film, and television. The game is designed around creating water cooler moments with your friends as you explore and learn more about the game’s galaxy.
Concord has an obvious Overwatch vibe – as you can see from the trailer below – with its focus on unique characters and ability-based gameplay. These characters are known as Freegunners, which you will take into battle across several maps and modes, fighting to take home the reward of a job well-done. At launch, the game will feature 16 Freegunners, with more coming in the future via free post-launch updates that introduce new characters, maps, modes, and more.
Firewalk plans to share further details on Concord’s various editions and pre-order info next week, meaning this is not a free-to-play game. Also, it sounds as though the beta will be open to everyone, with those who pre-order getting early access. I know what the internet is saying about this game, but it looks like my type of sweaty shooter, and I’m excited about the DualSense implementation watching this trailer.
