I love it when a game shows up out of nowhere and catches me by surprise. Today I received an email for a turn-based strategy game called Songs of Conquest, from Coffee Stain Publishing and developer Lavapotion. PC players may know it well, as it has been in Early Access for years, but today it finally went 1.0, in addition to announcing that a console version is coming later this year to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, which is what grabbed my attention.

If you’ve ever played Age of Wonders or Heroes of Might and Magic, you will recognize Songs of Conquest’s inspirations straight away, complete with gorgeous 2D pixel art. It blends turn-based combat, city-building, and kingdom management with a fantasy setting. The 1.0 version now includes four campaigns, four factions, controller support, and cross-platform multiplayer.

I’m begging you to watch this trailer and appreciate the art style. 2024 truly is the year of more.
