It’s been almost a year since I first shared the good news of Mirthwood, a medieval fantasy life sim RPG that is launching this Summer on PC. Today, developer Bad Ridge Games has shared fresh gameplay footage and details just in time for Steam Farming Fest.
As a medieval farmer, you’ll cultivate crops, raise or purchase livestock, and craft artisan goods to trade at the nearby town. As you build and expand your homestead, three building modes will be at your disposal – the traditional grid and snap construction, but also a freeform mode that allows you to build the farm you truly desire. Animals aren’t just for trade either, as you can have pets that travel with you on your adventures and assist in combat.
Speaking of combat, it’s completely up to you if you want to engage with it. There is plenty of adventure to be had beyond the confines of your land, or you can choose to live the simple life on your farm with your chickens and corn. The world of Mirthwood is a fully realized simulation, meaning that NPCs live their lives and react to your actions, as does the in-game economy. You can also develop relationships with NPCs, take on quests, and investigate mysterious events across the world.
Mirthwood continues to impress me each time I see it. I know there is only a PC version for now but watching it in motion gives me hope for a console version down the road – it even has radial menus already. I have faith in you Bad Ridge games.
