It’s Pokémon Day. I had forgotten until early this morning when I was browsing on my phone. If you didn’t know, this is the day of the official first release of the original Pokémon games. A lot of Pokémon titles were talked about, but nothing really jumped out until the latter half of the presentation. Pokémon Go, Pokémon Sleep, Pokémon Masters EX, Pokémon Cafe Remix, and Pokémon Unite all had something to show off or something free to grab by logging into those games.
With the first half filled with small trailers for upcoming features, I was beginning to wonder if there would be a “big” Pokémon reveal today at all. Then it happened. A new take on the Pokémon Trading Card Game, this time with phones in mind, Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket. It’s coming later this year, being developed by three Creatures Ibc, they made the original card game back in 1996, and DeNA the group behind Pokémon Go.
Lastly, what I had been hoping to see, a new, original game. Pokémon Legends Z-A. The trailer was not much more than a teaser, no in-game footage was show. The new Legends title will be released simultaneously worldwide in 2025. From the trailer it might be set in an urban environment this time, something I can get behind.
