Publisher and Developer Alawar have just announced a new game in the Beholder series, Beholder: Conductor. I wasn’t familiar with the original but, Beholder has you play as a state-installed landlord in a totalitarian country, placing listening devices, stealing, and sneaking into your tenants’ apartments. This time around in Beholder: Conductor you play as a, “conductor of the Determination Bringer train: monitor passengers, report incidents, and carry out important Ministry assignments — whose level of secrecy depends only on your loyalty. And remember: mission success is very important to you!”
It will be your job to monitor everyone who enters the carriage and decide what to do with fare-evaders. They can either be dropped off, handed over to the peacekeepers, or you can turn a blind eye to their violation for a bribe or out of the kindness of your heart. You’ll traverse up the train to places like the dining car. Once there you can choose to see what’s in the VIP compartments and carriages, see what high-ranking officials and big industrialists are up to. Tell the ministry what you see, or hold it back for future gain. You will also encounter smugglers — transporting their packages along the route is risky, but profitable.
The teaser trailer leaves a lot to the imagination, but some of the released screenshots show off some interesting elements. I can’t imagine how you go from a conductor to having six people tied to a track, deciding who should live and who shouldn’t. You can follow Beholder: Conductor on Steam or in Alawar’s Discord for more information and to stay up to date on an official release window.
