2K potentially teasing the return of a long requested match type in WWE 2K24

2K officially announced that WWE 2K24 would be revealed on Monday, but 2K did tease something ahead of the official reveal.

On their Instagram page WWEGames posted a picture of a referee shirt. This is only speculation, but this may hint at the return of "special guest referee" matches. This is a match type that was pretty much a mainstay in WWE games throughout the 2000's and the early 2010's but since 2K took over the series in WWE 2K15 this match type has been missing. This is probably the one match along with "Buried Alive" matches that fans have been begging to come back and almost 10 years later it looks like it may finally be returning. This is one of those match types that was always a blast to play with siblings or friends where you can play as the referee and choose to screw people over by refusing to count or fast counting someone to victory.  

Also interesting is that WWEGames tagged Stone Cold Steve Austin in the post as well. Stone Cold Steve Austin was a special guest referee at three matches at three separate Wrestle Manias so this may hint that the Showcase mode this year may have something to do with Wrestle Mania. That would make sense as this year is Wrestle Mania 40. Back when Wrestle Mania 30 happened WWE 2K14 had a mode called "30 Years of Wrestle Mania" where you got to play through a number of classic matches from Wrestle Mania history. I think the same could happen this year with Wrestle Mania 40 right around the corner. 

Either way we probably won't have to wait long for info as the official reveal is scheduled for this Monday, January 22nd and since it's a Monday my guess would be the reveal happens during Monday Night Raw.
