There had been rumors swirling in hardcore gaming circles of a God of War Ragnarok DLC for several weeks now, though never confirmed. That all changed last night during The Game Awards as PlayStation and Santa Monica Studio announced God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla, a free DLC for all owners of the game releasing on December 12th that introduces a new epilogue for Kratos.
Valhalla is a gameplay-focused mode with roguelite elements that you will recognize right off – randomized enemy combinations with each run, unlockable permanent upgrades, and a true test of your combat skills. All of Kratos’ weapons and skill trees will be maxed out, so you don’t have to worry about completing the base game, though PlayStation warns of spoilers if you care about that, as it is an epilogue to the story events of Ragnarok. Thankfully, as someone who is not a big roguelite fan, Valhalla will also feature five difficulty options, with higher difficulties granting better rewards in battle.
It's a nice surprise for such a wonderful game, and it appears that PlayStation is on a roguelite motif at the moment, with this in addition to The Last of Us: Part II Remastered's No Return mode. Check out the trailer for God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla before you go:
