Polyarc, the team behind the acclaimed Moss series of VR platformers have peeled back the curtains on their next game, a 1v1 multiplayer real-time battler called Glassbreakers: Champions of Moss. It’s available now in Early Access on the Meta App Lab; just search the Meta Quest Store and it should be there for free. All other Steam players who own Meta Quest 2, Rift, Valve Index, and HTC Vive can add Glassbreakers to their wish lists to keep tabs on the game ahead of its full release later this year. Currently, there is no word on a PlayStation VR2 version, although it must be in the works, right? Right!
In Glassbreakers, you choose from a combination of three Champions from the Moss universe, including both heroes and villains. Each Champion also has unique abilities that you’ll need to consider when building a squad. The game features both public matchmaking and private matches to go 1v1 with a friend. Polyarc says Glassbreakers is a unique take on real-time strategy due to the ability to see your opponents’ actions as they are happening:
“Because this is VR, we literally place the opposing player across from you which brings a deep sense of immersion and competitive spirit to Glassbreakers that you can’t experience in other games,” said Chris Bourassa, design director, Polyarc. “When you play Glassbreakers, there’s an added level of strategic gameplay that needs to be considered as you can see in real-time where your opponent is looking, what Champions they’re grabbing, and where they are moving them. It really brings real-time gaming to another level.”
Earlier this year, I reviewed Moss on PS VR2 and loved it, so if Glassbreakers can capture that same magic, I’ll be there day one – provided it is on PS VR2, of course. Check out the full gameplay reveal showcase below:
SEATTLE – August 29, 2023 – Polyarc, the acclaimed studio behind the Moss franchise, today revealed the first gameplay footage from Glassbreakers: Champions of Moss, its new 1v1 real-time battler, during the Glassbreakers Showcase to celebrate the game’s Meta App Lab Early Access release. Players using Meta Quest 2 can now search for Glassbreakers on the Meta Quest store and download the game for free. Steam players with Meta Quest 2, Rift, Valve Index, and HTC Vive can add Glassbreakers to their wish lists for its Steam release later this year.
“More than seven years ago, as we were captivated by the possibilities of virtual reality and envisioning the types of games we’d want to play and share with our friends, the concept of Glassbreakers was born,” said Tam Armstrong, CEO and co-founder, Polyarc. “Creating compelling worlds with memorable characters to connect with is core to what we do, and Glassbreakers gave our team the opportunity to combine all of that with their passion for competitive gaming. We cannot wait to grow this game with our players, and it’s our hope that they’ll form connections not only with their favorite Champions, but with others in our Glassbreakers community as well.”
In Glassbreakers, players reach in and choose their combination of three Champions from a growing roster of the most heroic, villainous, and notorious inhabitants from the world of Moss. Each Champion has their own unique abilities that complement the others on their squad and match up against the opposition in a myriad of consequential ways. Players can face off with friends in private games or match with similarly skilled players in the community—either way, they won’t know which Champions are on the other side until the battle begins. Every game presents its own unique opportunities and challenges as ever-changing squad combinations, board objectives, and playstyles bring endless variety to this exciting game of tactics, magic, and power.
In today’s Glassbreakers Showcase, Polyarc developer Barton Slade competed with Cas from Cas and Chary, while developer Danny Bulla battled Brady of BlitzVR in two exciting games to reveal a first look at Glassbreakers gameplay. Each game had its own unique feel, demonstrating how different squad combinations and playstyles, as well as physical presence in the arena, can impact gameplay in this immersive battler.

In addition to the gameplay reveal during the Glassbreakers Showcase, Polyarc Art Director Corrine Scrivens and Design Director Chris Bourassa provided insights and a behind-the-scenes look into the game via Dev Talks (Glassbreakers Overview, Strategic Game Play, and Customization) and Champion Spotlights, which highlighted a variety of Champion characters and their unique abilities. The game will release with seven Champions, and more will be introduced on a seasonal basis as part of the live games service.
Glassbreakers is now available on Meta App Lab for Early Access. Players can jump in between August 29th and September 4th to participate in the first-ever Bonus XP Event where they’ll be rewarded with tokens for skin dyes, unique player masks, banners, and crests. The expansive customization sets offered in Glassbreakers allow players to express their personal style and make their squad distinctly their own.
