Despite it just now being July, it is time to start thinking basketball, and NBA 2K24 in particular. Today, 2K and developer Visual Concepts officially announced this year’s iteration of the basketball sim, with it launching on September 8th for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
Basketball legend Kobe Bryant (may he rest in peace) will grace the cover of the game, which comes in four editions. The Kobe Bryant Edition or standard edition, if you will, comes with the base game and a handful of pre-order bonuses like MyTeam card packs and VC in-game currency for $69.99 on current-gen systems, or $59.99 on last-gen. The Black Mamba Edition will cost $99.99 and comes with loads of in-game content such as a sapphire Kobe Bryant MyTeam card, a bunch of MyTeam points and card packs, as well as a smattering of boosts for MyCareer. The $149.99 25th Anniversary Edition comes with all of the content from the previous two editions and a 12-month subscription to NBA League Pass so that you can watch you favorite NBA team this season. And finally, there is the WNBA Edition, a GameStop exclusive version featuring New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu on the cover.
As for what is new feature-wise in this year’s iteration, 2K had added cross-platform multiplayer for the first time in franchise history, but only on current-gen systems (no PC, oddly). On the raw gameplay front, 2K24 will introduce ProPLAY – a new technology that converts real-life NBA game footage into gameplay movements and animations in what is being lauded as a “generational leap in authenticity on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S”.
