If you thought Rockstar Games only cared about Grand Theft Auto, it appears that you’re dead wrong. In fact, you’re Red Dead wrong, as Gematsu recently reported that the South Korean game ratings board published a new rating for Red Dead Redemption. The rating was published on June 15th and is specifically for a console version of the title, which originally released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in May of 2010. This is great news for those of us who have been begging for a port of the classic title to modern machines, as it confirms that a new version of the game exists in some format.
Now, what exactly points to this being a remastered version of Red Dead Redemption? Following news of the new rating, Last Stand Media owner and industry insider Colin Moriarty claimed on a recent podcast that he has seen confirmation of a Red Dead Redemption remaster with his own eyes. Here is the full quote, courtesy of Icon Era:
“I can say I have seen confirmation that this is real. I don’t think you need this confirmation, but I had someone reach out to me behind the scenes that showed me something that definitively shows this game is coming. Maybe even imminently with an announcement maybe in like August. So, not a huge surprised, you don’t need to tell you that South Korean ratings board doesn’t just rate things. They rate things that are submitted to them.”
Moriarty is as reliable as they come in the industry, combined with the existence of the new rating in South Korea and it’s essentially a smoking gun – a Red Dead Redemption remaster is forthcoming. The existence of this remaster also calls into question the veracity of reports last year that a current-gen upgrade for Red Dead Redemption 2 was cancelled by Rockstar Games to focus on Grand Theft Auto 6. If nothing else, we now have reason yet again to hope that it too receives an update.
