I'm a massive city building and strategy game nerd who has lost an alarming amount of hours to the genre over the years. Something about the gameplay loop is so hypnotic and satisfying to my obsessive brain. For the more cursory fans of these titles you might feel like if you've seen one, you've seen them all. Enter Terra Nil from developer Free Lives and publisher Devolver Digital, which is mixing things up in a rather thoughtful way.
Terra Nil tasks players with reviving a barren wasteland into a thriving natural ecosystem utilizing advanced technology to do things like purifying waterways, planting trees, and reintroducing wildlife. But unlike other titles where you continuously build and expand, once you've breathed new life into the land in Terra Nil you'll recycle all of your equipment and return said land to Mother Nature.
Get a fresh look at some relaxing gameplay in a new trailer below. You can also check out a free demo now on the game's Steam page ahead of its eventual launch later this year on PC and Netflix. Console release, anyone?
