Developer Gun Interactive has revealed two new original characters for their upcoming asymmetrical multiplayer game The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, based on the iconic 1974 film of the same name.
The new characters were revealed via a month-long ARG, or alternate reality game, which began with the mysterious Instagram account of Maria Flores, the sister of one of the game's main characters. The ARG eventually led to a playable game on itch.io called “Petals”, which introduced the two new characters – Johnny and Sissy – who were developed in partnership with the film’s original screenwriter Kim Henkel.
If you’ve never heard of an alternate reality game, in a nutshell, it is an interactive way to use the real world as a platform for storytelling, which is usually accomplished across various forms of media.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre will release sometime in 2023 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. Check out an unrated gameplay trailer below, if you can stomach it:
