Swedish developer Embark Studios revealed an impressive first look at gameplay today for their free-to-play, team-based first-person shooter THE FINALS. They also announced that a closed alpha test is set to take place on PC from September 29th through October 3rd, with players able to request access on the game’s Steam page right now.
THE FINALS is set in a combat entertainment game-show where players compete to advance through tournaments, earning prizes and fame along the way. Here are some of the main features of the game:
KEY FEATURES:
Embark Studios was founded in 2018 by former Electronic Arts executive Patrick Söderlund and former DICE executive Johan Andersson. Söderlund held a number of high-profile positions at both EA and Battlefield developer DICE, including: CEO of Battlefield at DICE, Head of Worldwide Studios at EA, and most recently the Chief Design Officer at EA. Prior to co-founding Embark, Andersson was in charge of EA’s artificial intelligence arm, called the Search for Extraordinary Experiences Division.
THE FINALS was not scheduled to be the first game from Embark Studios, which originally announced that another free-to-play shooter called Arc Raiders would be launching in 2022. However, Embark announced in August that THE FINALS had leapfrogged Arc Raiders in the development process and will now release first. It will come to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S when it launches.
