This isn't normally the sort of thing we cover (and no, internet haters, nobody paid me to write this), but I thought the Mana Interactive debit card was interesting enough to bring to readers' attention.
Long story short - the Mana Interactive card is a free debit card that you is going into closed beta.
Why does a debit card need a closed beta? Because there is an app that goes along with it.
What does the app do? Manages your money and shows you how many points you've earned by using your card.
What do the points do? Earn you free gamer stuff, like games and discounts.
I started looking into Mana Interactive last night. From what I can tell, you use the app to transfer money to the card. Then you use the card to buy stuff and earn points. You get extra points for using the card to pay for game subscriptions like PS Plus, Game Pass, or Amazon Prime (there's a long list - pretty much every subscription I have is on there - even stuff like Paramount+). Then you use the app to cash in the points for free goodies - most likely gift cards and game codes.
The "free goodies" part is where the whole thing gets a little murky. I've combed through the Mana Interactive website, and I can't seem to locate any examples of the sort of stuff you earn. I'm hoping that it is all digital product. Managing physical stuff like t-shirts and toys sounds like a logistical nightmare, and a possible recipe for disaster. I'm hoping they just manifest codes on the app, and you can tap them into your PlayStation or Steam or whatever.
There is also a "Pro" version of the card that you can get for $119.95 per year (currently discounted for Waitlist users to $69.99). The Pro version essentially earns you points much faster, and you get instantly rewarded with subscriptions to a variety of gaming services (Discord Nitro Classic, FGitGMR Pro, Surfshark VPN, and FirstBlood Premium) and $25 gift cards to both PlayStation and Xbox. So if you nail down the $70 price, it pretty much pays for itself.
Mana Interactive is a real deal company, with banking services provided by MVB Bank Inc, so your money is backed by the FDIC. It's not like they are going to abscond with your cash. I'm thinking that I might hop into the beta to check things out and report back. I wanna see what these freebies I can earn are. Heck, if I just moved all of my subscriptions over to this thing and fed it the cash to pay for them, I would be rolling in the points after a month or two.
I'll report back when I learn more. Those interested and checking the card out for themselves can find more information here.
