I could sit here and write a full length novel about my memories with the Atari 2600. Along with the Colecovision and the Intellivision, those were my first game consoles. While everyone else was playing the NES, I was playing my Dad's Atari 2600. Well actually not the actual 2600, the adapter that you could buy for the Colecovision that let you play 2600 games on the console. These games are all near and dear to my heart and whenever those Atari Flashbacks or Atari Collection volumes came out I would always buy them. So this just shot up to the top of my most anticipated games lists.
Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration will launch later this year and will include 90 games from Atari's history. For the first time though, it will include games from the 2600, 5800, 7800, Atari ST, Lynx and the Jaguar. The other big news here is that this collection will include some new games as well and finally after 40 years we are finally getting Swordquest: Airworld, the fourth game in the Swordquest series that was cancelled due to the videogame crash. Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration will also include tons of interviews with the founders and developers of Atari and Atari games, so I love how this is like a playable documentary that takes you through the history of Atari.
Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration releases later this year.
