Having spent a ton of time with both the Switch and PC versions of Monster Hunter Rise, I can attest they it is a very large game, with a ton of great content for players to dig into. After rolling the credits on the story, the game is pretty much just getting started, and players could easily spend hundreds of hours digging into the late-game hunts and building up their gear. But is that enough content for the Monster Hunter fandom? Absolutely not.
Capcom is addressing the needs of its devoted fanbase by releasing Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak this June. Announced at a digital event earlier this week, MHR: Sunrise will include a ton of new content for players - including a new hub, new story content, new gear and items, and of course, a ton of new monsters to fight.
There will be several options to choose from when purchasing the expansion, from a $39.99 base expansion all the way to the $99.99 "Limited Collector's Edition", which will include a digital voucher for the Deluxe Edition of the expansion in addition to physical items such as a sticker pack, enamel pin, steelbook case and an amiibo figure of Malzeno, the new monster at the center of the expansion.
To help existing players that might be lagging behind a little bit (smiles, waves at the camera), Capcom has added some new gear to the base game to help get your character ready for the new stuff. Even without purchasing the expansion, fans should be ready for a sizable patch and some cool new content. Some details from a recent press release:
"The powerful Defender series of weapons boasts a high attack power for helping players advance through early hunts, and can be paired with the Black Belt armor and Veteran’s Talisman for enhanced survivability and useful skills. As players approach High Rank, the Guild Cross set speeds up the process of harvesting useful items that can be stockpiled for future hunts. Monster Hunter Rise players who do not purchase the Sunbreak expansion will receive an update when Sunbreak launches that will require 13GB on Nintendo Switch and PC. The update will be required for online play, and includes weapon balances, item packs, and character edit vouchers."
I've had a blast both times I've played Monster Hunter Rise. Just hearing that soundtrack music gets my blood pumping a little faster. Take a look below for my first hunt while playing the PC edition:
