Get ready for a visual assault, because Atari's Tempest 4000 is coming to Nintendo Switch and Atari VCS this Spring. How bright and flashy are the graphics in Tempest 4000? Well, take your anti-seizure meds and check out this trailer:
I joke, but I gotta say that Tempest 4000 looks really cool. I'm getting some Tetris Effect vibes from the visuals and music. Tempest was one of my favorite arcade games back in the day (not to imply that I was good at it; most of my games lasted about 45 seconds), so I'm excited to try out this new version.
According to a recent press release, "players once again face screaming electric death as they take control of the Claw, a powerful spacecraft equipped to destroy deadly creatures and other obstructions with rapid-fire shots on vibrant geometric prisms. With three game modes to choose from and 100 levels to conquer, players must eliminate all enemies as quickly as possible to survive and achieve that coveted spot at the top of the leaderboards."
I'll say one thing for this recent series of Atari remasters - they do not skimp on the content. Games N Moorer's Joseph Moorer has been streaming them, and the series seems to be absolutely packed with levels and new ways to approach the core mechanics.
We'll have more on Tempest 4000 as we approach release on March 24. In the meantime, the game is currently available on PlayStation 4, Xbox consoles, and Steam.
