Some fairly big news came yesterday out of Gameforge - the publisher behind popular MMOs like AION and TERA. The fairly new Swords of Legends Online, developed by Wangyan Shengtang & Aurogon, is going free-to-play just a couple of months after its initial western release.
In a new patch coming in late February, Swords of Legends Online is adding a ton of content in addition to shifting to a free-to-play model. The new pay model will not include any pay-to-win elements, with only cosmetics and battle passes being available for purchase in the game store.
Additionally, the new Update 2.0 will add a bunch of new stuff to the already sprawling game, including two new player classes (Fox Mage and Warrior), new character slots, and increased level cap and a bunch of new story content. There will also be five new 5-10 player dungeons and two new raids.
I've had my eye on Swords of Legends for a little while now, as the visuals look extremely impressive and I like the epic vibe of everything I've seen. Only my own hesitation at the time commitment needed for an MMO has kept me from jumping in. But with the game going free-to-play, I think I might find time to engage for a few weekends in early March.
