I've been making a lot of videos lately of me playing new games and posting them on YouTube to use in articles and previews. I have a decent microphone, but it is unwieldy and awkward to use while trying to play, so I've been using the built in mic on my headset - which is a total bummer. It sounds tinny and weak, and doesn't give me quality I need to make my videos seem halfway professional (not to mention that it picks up every time I take a swig of my soda).
I've been on the lookout for a more efficient way to get good sound without breaking the bank, and I think I've found it in the new ROCCAT Torch Microphone, releasing today from ROCCAT - Turtle Beach's PC peripheral brand. The Torch is driver free, plug and play via USB, but users can opt to use the NEON - ROCCAT's device software suite to play with the RGB lighting on the mic (always fun).
The Torch offers an array of professional features, including 24-bit audio quality, a dual condenser design, latency-free Mic Monitoring, and a built-in pop filter (thank God). Users will be able to choose between three pickup patterns out of the box - "Cardioid – perfect for gaming and streaming; Stereo – great for vocals and instruments; and the Torch’s exclusive Whisper pattern – for when you must be at your quietest, but still be heard." Users will also be able to fine tune settings, control volume, and flip between those pickups with having to install a driver - the controls are all built into the mic's tightly designed base. The Torch even includes a 3.5 headphone jack for mic monitoring.
I'm definitely going to be checking out the ROCCAT Torch Mic. The smaller profile of the mic and base look perfect for what I'm trying to do. Keep an eye on Gaming Nexus for my review in the coming weeks. In the meantime, for more information check out ROCCAT.com. You can also follow ROCCAT on TikTok, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube for more info on their suite of products.
