I'm absolutely certain that I'm projecting at this point, but I just can't seem to get past the idea that Ayo the Clown is secretly a demon. Even if he doesn't take off his clown face to reveal the slithering tentacle-monster beneath the paint, I still just kinda feel like that evil lives inside of Ayo, and all of the cuteness on display is just a façade.
I realized this morning that some of my misgivings are probably cultural bias. In many parts of the world, clowns are respected and beloved entertainers. Here in the U.S., however, we tend to have two reactions to clowns: "This clown is trying to kill me." and "Get away from my children, dirty clown!" I'm quite sure at this point that the creators of Ayo the Clown are simply trying to make a charming family-friendly game. But I can't help but be a little afraid of it.
Anyhow, here's the newest super-cute trailer for Ayo the Clown. He kisses a mop, gets his nose caught in a frog king's bottom, and gets smacked around by a bear. You know...clown stuff.
I'm kidding about Ayo, of course. The game has a lovely Nintendo-style sheen to it, and I'm certain it will be a delight to play. Ayo brings his game to Switch and Steam on July 28th.
