Crayta, the excellent game-making game that has been Free with Pro on Stadia since it's launch back in June, is now going full free-to-play. This means that anyone can create a Stadia account and jump right into Crayta for free, with no need for a Pro account.
For those that are unfamiliar, Crayta offers players a way to create and play fun games, with a nice system that allows gamers to dig as deep as they want into Crayta's creation tools. You can simply go in and stack blocks Minecraft-style and throw a few rules and effects onto your game. But the truly advanced can actually crack open the code and create some truly spectacular stuff.
All of Crayta's creation tools will be open for anyone to try. The team behind Crayta has scaled back the cosmetic rewards - typically earned both by playing and creating games - in order to support the move, adding paid Battle Passes, which will roll out in the near future. All existing users will automatically gain all remaining items next time they log in (sweet!). The new Battle Passes will be themed, and will unlock outfits, emotes, and other cool goodies by completing Creator Challenges in the game.
Unit 2 Games is also prepping Crayta for launch in the Epic Games Store on March 10th. The Epic version of Crayta will have full cross-play and cross-progression with Stadia, and ought to go a long way towards bringing this fantastic experience to the mainstream.
On March 10, the following editions will be available in the Stadia store:
Aside from that, if you’re on Stadia you will also still see the Premium Edition:
If you already own any version of Crayta, or you don’t want to invest in one of the bigger bundles, you’ll also be able to buy each Battle Pass on its own for $9.99 (or $6.99 if you’re a Stadia Pro subscriber), or a 2 Battle Pass Bundle for $14.99.
