I know that comparing games to acid trips is a little cliché, but while I was running through the Balan Wonderland demo this afternoon, a viewer named Ernie said in the chat that "It looks like an acid trip". Since Ernie said it first, I feel like its cool to make the comparison.
The Balan Wonderland demo does look like an acid trip, but the happiest, most joyous song-filled acid trip in recorded history. Of course, I have no idea what was happening during the demo, but I was able to come away with a basic understanding of how Balan Wonderland's gameplay works. Players unlock various costumes (with corresponding powers) while running round colorful levels, and then toggle the costumes to use the powers needed depending on the context.
Here's my run, for anyone interested in checking out the trippy fun:
The Balan Wonderland demo is free to players today on PlayStation 4 and 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. Playing through the demo on any of these systems will unlock a special costume when the game releases on March 26.
It should also be noted that though I thought I was done with the demo, I had barely scratched the surface. Two player co-op is available, which allows for a greater degree of exploration. And the demo allows players to mess with three of the twelve worlds available in the final game - I'm pretty sure that I just played one of those three.
