Cyberpunk 2077 is perhaps the most anticipated game of the year, and one of the most anticipated games of the last decade. Naturally, there’ll be tens of millions of people playing the game over the next few weeks. Anyone susceptible to epileptic seizures should be cautious however, with reports emerging that sequences in Cyberpunk 2077 can induce seizures.
The information came to light thanks to a journalist reviewing the game, Liana Ruppert, who wrote “Cyberpunk 2077 Epileptic PSA” on GameInformer. During her time with the game, Ruppert describes how she “suffered one major seizure and felt several moments where [she] was close to another one.”
Notably, Ruppert identifies the Braindance sequences in Cyberpunk 2077 as the main cause of her episodes. She goes on...“Pretty much everything about this is a trigger and this is something that caused me to have a grand mal seizure when playing to help with our review. This is also a trigger on many levels, starting with the device itself.”
We wholeheartedly recommend reading the Cyberpunk 2077 Epileptic PSA directly to find out what sequences within the game can be potential triggers. The user agreement does come with a seizure warning:
“Cyberpunk 2077 may contain flashing lights and images, which may induce epileptic seizures. If you or anyone in your household has an epileptic condition, please consult your doctor before playing Cyberpunk 2077. If you experience dizziness, altered vision, eye or muscle twitches, loss of awareness, disorientation, any involuntary movement, or convulsions while playing, immediately discontinue use and consult your doctor.”
If you do suffer from epileptic seizures, it might be worth waiting for some sort of patch to add an accessibility option before delving into Night City. If you do decide to jump in anyway, be sure to read the Cyberpunk 2077 Epileptic PSA and more on seizure triggers by clicking here to go to the Epilepsy Foundation.
