We've already detailed how wonky the controls are for this game, but in case that discussion has burned the lede, Star Wars: Squadrons is out today. Once we all get used to the controls, EA's given us a chance to finally step into the cockpit of an X-wing or TIE Fighter in a game any of us have been waiting for since we were children. Squadrons features 5v5 multiplayer in both Dogfight and Fleet Battles modes following an original Star Wars taking place just after the events of Return of the Jedi.
The game is just $40 and can be played on PC, PS4, and Xbox One and is available in VR for PC and PSVR. There is a number of in-game progress options to unlock including Primary Weapons, Auxiliaries, Countermeasures, Hulls, Shields, and Engines across four classes of starfighters (Fighters, Bombers, Interceptors, and Support ships) from both the New Republic and Imperial forces. Post-launch plans include online daily challenges for in-game currency sets of cosmetic rewards. There's a lot to like about what's on offer with Star Wars: Squadrons, and I'm sure we will all work out the controls eventually.
