Things have been pretty quiet on the Tarzan VR front for a while (the teaser trailer released back in October, 2019). But publisher Fun Train came bursting back on the scene today with this mixed reality trailer - complete with a really cool and unusual song on the soundtrack.
The trailer is super cool, showing how players will interact with the world of Tarzan VR. Created by mixed reality specialists Splitverse (check out more of their work here), the trailer offers a widescreen look at the different ways that players will be able to take on the role of Tarzan (and Jane, it seems). Swimming, fighting, swinging through the jungle, sniping fools with a slingshot - there are a lot of ways for Tarzan to Tarzan, apparently.
Fun Train also revealed a summary of each of the three serialized "issues":
Issue 1 – The Great Ape: Jane has been abducted by a group of invaders, and Tarzan must seek the wisdom of The Great Ape in order to find the trail of her mysterious captors. Features The Mighty Axe.
Issue 2 – Jagged Edge: Tarzan begins his pursuit of Jane’s captors and must make his way across the dangerous Cliffs of Kombatu where one misstep leads to certain doom. Features the Slingshot.
Issue 3 – The Dead of Night: As night draws in, the jungle swamp poses all manner of hidden dangers. Only the strange fruit found in the heart of the Valley of Eden can save the life of Tarzan’s true love. Features The Long Bow.
It does seem as though the scope of Tarzan VR has been cut back a bit, as the original summaries released detailed five issues. I'm a bit sad to see the volcano episode get cut. But three issues are better than none!
From these summaries, it looks as though each issue will feature a specific weapon, which is neat. Players will also be able to find and unlock vintage radio dramas, "unearthed from the official private vault of Edgar Rice Burroughs". Neat!
Speaking of neat, check out this poster:
If that doesn't capture the spirit of Tarzan, I don't know what does. No release date has been announced yet, but this project seems to be shaping up very nicely. No other property I can think of has been better suited to the serialized story-telling approach used in Tarzan VR. I'm all ready for some pulpy fun.
