As someone who has always been fascinated by space exploration -- even willing to leave my wife to travel to Mars if the opportunity presented itself (just kidding, honey, I swear) -- Mars Horizon caught my eye immediately. Even better, I and other hopeful astronauts won't have to wait years for technology to catch up, as there's a chance to hop on an early mission.
Developer Auroch Digital and Irregular Corporation have announced a beta for their upcoming release, Mars Horizon. Scheduled to take place on April 27 on PC only, the Mars Horizon beta will allow players to take on the role of a major space agency and guide their fledgling space program through different milestones, with the goal of advancing faster than other entities.
The beta will allow participants to experience space exploration as far as the moon through more than a dozen missions, led by the player's choice of NASA, European Space Agency (ESA), or Russia (the full version of the game will feature two additional space agencies). Additionally, players can choose from up to 30 of the optional mission requests to participate in.
The full list of features in the beta includes:
Auroch Digital has worked with the ESA to make this game as authentic, yet accessible, as possible. "Working with ESA is a massive bonus for the Mars Horizon universe," said Design Director Tomas Rawlings on the collaboration with the ESA. "Having access to real Mission Control specialists who can explain the real-life challenges they face will help make this game as authentic as we can."
