BE-A-Walker, the (non-official) AT-ST simulator that has players gunning down little native ewok-looking dudes and tromping them into little blood globbers, is coming to PC, Android, and iOS on May 7th.
In our review of BE-A-Walker for Nintendo Switch, we said that BE-A-Walker is "a moderately entertaining AT-ST simulator. Be ready to juggle a variety of frustrating systems, as nothing in this game comes easy." This game is one tough cookie, though once you get over the learning curve, you will likely settle down into a nice pattern of gunplay and stomping.
In the press release, art and game designer Stanislav Zagniy said, “Since BE-A Walker is a game about the colonization of an alien planet, we thought the best choice would be to refer to the history of American colonization. We wanted to show the overall danger of not only taking such actions but also the negative consequences of experimentation with nature.
“Of course, we tried to touch on the moral and ethical issues of colonization by showing the relationship between a technologically advanced civilization and natives living in harmony with nature. For the characters in our game, the settlement is not a way to get rich at the expense of a 'technologically backward' civilization but is, in fact, the only path to human survival. For all the game's bloodthirsty nature and cruelty, each native's death is a tragic consequence of the struggle for survival and should not bring any pleasure or satisfaction to the player. In general, we tried to refrain from the player feeling like a 'hero and savior of the world'. He is simply hostage to a situation in which there is no 'right' decision to make."
So, there's more going on there than just stomping ewoks into goo.
In addition to wishlisting the game on Steam, you can also download and play a free demo, available right now.
