In some pretty sad news today despite "record results" but missing expectations, Activision Blizzard is letting go 8% of their company. That means about 800 people will be without a job today from an industry I love.
Kotaku obtained a letter sent out detailing the layoffs. A "comprehensive severance package", job placement assistance, and other services will be available for those affected by the layoff. Blizzard is losing folks in departments not in the development process.
This seemed to be a long time coming as rumors abound of this happening for a few months now. Meanwhile, Activision is looking to cut costs and make more games.
As always, this isn't something you want to see happen let's hope these people can quickly find something again.
