The Old Ones ain't what they used to be. I'm a big fan of H.P. Lovecraft, but the most recent games inspired by his fiction are a little disappointing. Call of Cthulhu turned out to be more of a clunky point-and-click adventure and Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics was just okay. I'm hoping Blini Games' take in Lovecraft's Untold Stories is scarier and more gripping. There are a few things that give me pause; it's a roguelite game and there's a bajillion of those on Steam, not to mention I have no idea how the developers weaved the stories of five characters into a procedurally generated algorithm.
But there are things that make me excited too. The top-down gameplay looks reassuringly like Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, there seems to be a healthy mix of action, investigation and horror, and the game's early access reviews are singing its praises. So what if the levels are randomly generated? White knuckle action, RPG elements and detective work...this sounds just like the Cthulhu game I've been waiting for. You can still buy Lovecraft's Untold Stories in early access, but the full release will happen on January 31st.

LLC Blini Games announces today that the action roguelite with RPG elements Lovecraft's Untold Stories will be launched on January 31st for €14.99 / $14.99 / £ 11.39 in English, Russian, and Spanish; other languages will be added in the near future. Besides, the Chinese version published by Surefire Games can be found here. After a successful period of 6 months in Early Access, the game is now complete and ready for its full release. Follow the path of five different characters (the Detective, the Professor, the Ghoul, the Thief, and the Witch) in their adventures against the Great Old Ones, their minions, and their worshippers.
