GRIS heads to Switch and Steam December 13th

More On: GRIS

Man, I love artful games. Whether it's the ripped paper aesthetic of And Yet It Moves or the afternoon tea and crafts and grandma's warm fuzzy feeling of Kirby's Epic Yarn, I really enjoy games that embody a specific artistic vision. GRIS continues that tradition with a strong watercolor theme. I'm really digging the art style, but a few things in the press release give me pause. Devolver and Nomada Studio promise an experience "free of danger, frustration or death," with "light puzzles, platforming sequences, and optional skill-based challenges."

I don't know. Without a hard fail state, these types of games get pretty boring for me. For example I abhor walking simulators, and GRIS seems uncharacteristic of Devolver's usual hard-hitting fare. But for the visuals alone, I might give GRIS a spin. The game arrives December 13th on Switch eShop and Steam, for $16.99.

GRIS ARRIVES ON NINTENDO SWITCH AND PC DECEMBER 13

- Coming to Nintendo Switch and PC in December -

Barcelona – Nomada Studio and Devolver Digital have announced GRIS, a serene and evocative narrative experience, will release on Nintendo Switch and PC on Dec. 13 at $16.99.

Free of danger, frustration or death, players will explore a meticulously designed world brought to life with delicate art, detailed animation, and an elegant original score. Through the game light puzzles, platforming sequences, and optional skill-based challenges will reveal themselves as more of GRIS’ world becomes accessible.

GRIS is a hopeful young girl lost in her own world, dealing with a painful experience in her life. Her journey through sorrow is manifested in her dress, which grants new abilities to better navigate her faded reality. As the story unfolds, GRIS will grow emotionally and see her world in a different way, revealing new paths to explore using her new abilities.

Based in Barcelona, Nomada Studio is composed of experienced developers and artists outside of video games with disciplines in illustration, painting, and graphic design. Featuring art from noted artist Conrad Roset and the music of Berlinist, GRIS is their debut title as a team.
