I play games like Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, because for me they are a fun way to entertain a fantasy. I am not a great marksman, an action hero, or a battle hardened leader of the armed forces. Pretending to be one of those things is the appeal of such a game for me, and when the competitive fun is over, I turn my console off.
For the men and women of our armed forces, when their time in the military concludes, some of our veterans may experience challenges when attempting to return to the job market. Such a transition can be a daunting one with its own set of unique hurdles.
In order to combat veteran unemployment, which is listed at 3.4% as of September 2018 by the United States Department of Labor, Activision Blizzard has announced a new purchasable in-game pack known as the Salute Pack. This pack, which retails at $4.99, donates 100% of its proceeds to The Call of Duty Endowment, and organization dedicated to funding organizations geared towards finding meaningful employment for unemployed veterans of the US and UK.
According to the organization's website, The Call of Duty Endowment has been responsible for placing 50,000 veterans into careers since 2009. An admirable initiative for a franchise potentially responsible for the popularization of the military to many enthusiasts and fans of the Call of Duty family of games who may be unaware of the challenges that can be presented after a career in the military. This is a great opportunity for Call of Duty fans to help support unemployed veterans in their search to find great jobs after having served in something that many of us may only be able to identify with from movies, literature, and video games.
If you are a fan of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, or are interested to learn more about the organization's goals and strategy, I encourage you to visit The Call of Duty Endowment's website and consider picking up the Salute Pack inside the in-game store.
