There is a Delorean on the show floor at GDEX in the Columbus Convention Center. Seeing it as I came around the corner, I thought "Oh cool, someone has a Back to the Future car here." But the dude that owns this particular Delorean did not mod it to look like Doc Brown's time machine. Nope, this guy had something else in mind.
This particular Delorean has been modded to play Sega's Outrun. As it was explained to me, certain 3D-printed pieces were added to the steering column and the gas and brake pedals, allowing the car itself to be used as the control system for the game, so long as the engine is off. When the engine is on, the car acts like, well...a car. The owner told me that the car is 100% street legal, he just modded certain parts to do this one weird (and awesome) specific thing.
I took the car for a spin, and other than the fact that you have to play Outrun in automatic (without the gear shift), it works like a charm. Bonus: steering the car in Outrun also moves the actual tires on the Delorean.
