I think we are seeing a gaming new trend emerging.
Here’s how it works: A developer announces a game. They release a trailer, maybe a demo. Then communication goes silent, no new announcements are made, and the game falls off the face of the earth. Years go by. And then suddenly, out of nowhere, an announcement is made. The game is done, and it is coming out this month!
This recent movement in gaming PR played out again today, when a post on the PlayStation Blog announced that Dead Secret will be releasing on April 24th for PS4 and PS VR. I didn’t realize that the game had been banging around the internets for so long until I went to find a trailer to post and saw that the announcement trailer was posted in October of 2015. AHA!
Regardless of what the story behind the long gestation period is, the game sounds fairly intriguing. Described as a mystery game with horror elements, the game promises to be creepy without permanently scarring your soul. Players wander around a recently abandoned house, looking at documents and uncovering clues, kind of like Gone Home but with MURDER!
I would be interesting in hearing the story behind this one. Dead Secret has been around on Steam since 2016, and is currently rocking a Very Positive review average. Perhaps porting to PS VR had some hidden complexities that the team at developer Robot Invader didn’t anticipate. Or maybe they just needed some help getting things across the finish line. Either way, the mission is accomplished and the Dead Secret will be haunting PS4s and PS VRs later this month.
