There is just something about Railroad Tycoon type games that I really do adore. It was the first game I ever got for my first computer, and they always hold a special place in my heart. It has been 11 long years since Sid Meier or any of his proteges have touched the genre, but thankfully Kalypso Media and Gaming Minds Studios are here to pick up the slack. Announced at E3 and coming in 2018, Railway Empire is a tycoon simulator for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
The game starts you out in 1830's America, where else but the height of the railway boom. The goal is to expand your business empire from coast to coast over 100 in-game years of industrial innovation. The game features 40 different trains and 30 different wagons, as well as railway stations, maintenance buildings, factories, and tourist attractions to stay one step ahead of the competition. You’ll have to manage a workforce while researching 300 different technologies across five eras. Matches will pit you against three other tycoons with tools such as raids and industrial espionage at your disposal.
Here's hoping it delivers, because it has been too long since I last had a go in a railroad tycoon sim...
