One of the stranger surprises to come out of Ubisoft's E3 presentation was Starlink: Battle For Atlas. Ostensibly it's a space fighter sim--a genre we don't see nearly enough of anymore--but it also looks like it's going full-bore with the toys to life concept.
Basically, you snap a plastic spaceship to your Joycon Grip and then attach modular components to the ship to add new weapons and abilities mid-combat. The concept looks like it's really pushing NFC technology, but I have no idea how you're supposed to play this game in portable mode and having a big plastic spaceship hanging off my controller looks unwieldy. It's also important to note that the toys to life genre has been seeing diminishing returns for a few years now and I wonder what Ubisoft was thinking.
Personally I would just prefer a decent Switch exclusive space sim, which Starlink might just turn out to be in the end. The game is scheduled for fall 2018.
