There's a new video card king out and it's called the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti. NVIDIA took to the stage at GDC 2017 to announce the next card that they say is faster than a Titan X.
The GeForce GTX 1080 Ti will be a nice bump from the GeForce GTX 1080. If you want the absolute fastest card, this is it. Here's how it the Ti variant compares with the regular 1080.
GTX 1080 Ti | GTX 1080 | |
CUDA Cores | 3584 | 2560 |
Texture Units | 224 | 160 |
ROPs | 88 | 64 |
Boost Clock | 1600MHz | 1733MHz |
TFLOPs (FMA) | 11.5 TFLOPs | 9 TFLOPs |
Memory Clock | 11Gbps GDDR5X | 10Gbps GDDR5X |
Memory Bus Width | 352-bit | 256-bit |
VRAM | 11GB | 8GB |
For connectors, gone is the DVI port, so the card only has three DisplayPorts and one HDMI port. Don't worry. Adapters for DisplayPorts to DVI will be included if you still need to use the older port. The removal of the DVI port does increases the blower size so it should offer up better cooling as well.
The GeForce GTX 1080 Ti will get a power bump as well with a TDP of 250W. To accommodate, the card will have both a six-pin and an eight-pin connector.
All told, the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti sounds like a great card and it's coming in at $699. That's a little surprising as I thought it would be more expensive. Oh, it should be available next week as well.
For those waiting on the regular 1080 card, it's going to drop down to $499, which is great news.
