Funcom has just released a stunning new sample of the soundtrack for their upcoming open-world survival game Conan Exiles. What's more, they've announced that the musical mind behind the sample is none other than Knut Avenstroup Haugen, the award-winning composer behind the soundtrack of 'Age of Conan.'
The game itself is set in the brutal lands of Conan the Barbarian himself. Able to be played either alone or with friends, players can journey through a huge world filled with ruins, discovering history and secrets as they seek domination of the lands. It goes from 0 to 100 in a very spectacular way - from building tools with bare hands a la Minecraft to erecting fortresses and summoning gods a la...nothing else, really. Check out the pre-alpha trailer here if you're interested in a sample, though development has definitely passed this point by now.
Point is, a game like this needs one spectacular soundtrack - music that's able to change in an instant depending on in-game events because, you know, open world games. Good music is one of the many backbones of a good game, and once you hear what Funcom and Haugen have given us for a sneak peek...well, see for yourself.
